I was looking at the calendar the other day and, whew – time is a-flying! My mat leave, which seemed like an eternity last summer, is quickly coming to an end; at least that means that summer is coming, which is a silver lining on a snowy March day. This also means that the blog is fast approaching a special milestone … its two year anniversary. Yep, though this may also seem like an eternity – for better or worse – BCRL is about to turn two. With that in mind, I have been pondering ways to celebrate, which would include thanking all of you, dear readers.

A giveaway seems like the most obvious option, but here is the rub. Normally, blog giveaways are tied to requirements for people to participate via following, tweeting, or blogging about the blog itself. And while I would love for all of you to sing my praises far and wide, asking people to do it feels a little weird to my self-conscious self. So I am probably going to do what my (also) rules-hating self usually ends up doing, which is to wing it. On the anniversary of the blog – May 11 – I will put all my official followers’ names in a hat (a literal hat, by the way), and draw a name. Voila! And so I don’t feel like I’m bribing you to “like” me, I won’t announce the actual prize until the day of the draw. Borrowing a page from Oprah, however, you can be sure that it will consist of a few of my favourite things.

So, in summary: thank you, dear readers and followers, for your continued support, comments and encouragement. To anyone who is an occasional reader, but has not yet signed up to be a follower, please consider doing it, and maybe even telling a friend or two about BCRL. And stay tuned on May 11, 2012, for the birthday giveaway extravaganza!

  1. This is a wonderful idea! I feel like widely advertised giveaways draw people that never read a single blog post. I would be so afraid of that happening if I did one, I’d probably do the same thing as you. 🙂 Good call!

    • Thank you so much for the feedback! It’s hard … on one hand, who doesn’t want more followers (almost two years in, I still feel like a insecure newbie when it comes to that), but on the other hand, I would really like the prize to go to someone who has been reading the blog all along. This felt like the only alternative I could be comfortable with, but I’m not sure it will do much for the followers count, haha!
