This dress was a total impulse buy on eBay, and while it was a great deal, I’m not sure it was a great idea. I *think* my thought process was something along the lines of “I need to refresh my work dress line-up, and I should branch out from floral prints”; all fine and good, and this dress certainly meets those criteria — it’s new (to me), and it’s got a non-floral print. I like the colours, I like the artsy geometric print … and yet, somehow, I’m not sure this dress is very “me”. [Edited to add: on further reflection, I think it’s the colours that are “off”. I like them in principle, but I’m not sure they work all that well with my wardrobe palette.]

Still, I have to make it work, right? I did my best, you guys. Luckily, I just thrifted some cognac pumps (after many years of searching) and they go well with the burnt orange/brown colour in the print. I was initially stumped for a topper; between the vibe of the dress, and its shape, most of my go-to blazers looked “off” when paired with it. Thankfully, I noticed the grey-blue of the dress matched my Tabitha wool jacket, and the two pieces didn’t seem to totally clash. I left the dress unbelted, so as not to cover that critical bit of blue. I don’t like making outfits inspired solely by necessity but when you’ve got a “closet orphan” on your hands, you often don’t have a choice. Note to self: step away from the eBay after 10:00PM. It’s Bad Decision Central.

  1. Funny that you found this dress on eBay! Just after I saw it (and fell in love with it) on your Instagram, I searched eBay for it and couldn’t find a thing.

I really do love how you’ve styled it. Beautiful!

    • Baraschi dresses are so hit-and-miss on eBay — I’ve rarely seen multiples of the same dress. But keep trying! There is an Erin Fetherston dress I wanted a while back, but I dithered and it sold on me, and I’m still hoping it will turn up again. Haven’t seen it in a few months, but I remain hopeful, LOL!

      • Do you save searches so you’re notified when something pops up again? Or just check whenever the thought comes to mind?

        • These days, I just check whenever I think of it. I’m trying to cut down on eBay purchases, so I figure that if I can’t remember it, I can probably live without it … and if I get lucky whenever I randomly search, then it was meant to be πŸ˜‰

    • Thanks! I do like it, and I got some nice compliments when I wore it, so now I just have to figure out how to mix and match it with the rest of my wardrobe. I’m sure that inspiration will strike πŸ˜‰

  2. I love this dress on you! I can see what you mean about the colors (well, mostly the pink…it’s a little different than the palette you’ve been using), but I think it’s lovely on you and this outfit is amazing! I look forward to seeing what you pair it with next!

    • I think it’s the mix of all the colours together too … not my usual palette. But it’s a good quality dress, so I’m definitely going to try to make it work.
