Vacation Style Wrap-up

up, up and away - BC bound
up, up and away – BC bound

Ah, summer holidays! We wait for them all year, and they’re gone in the blink of an eye. No, seriously: did any of this really happen? ‘Cause I’m finding it hard to believe and it’s been less than 2 weeks. Well, I guess it did, since I have the pictures to prove it.

Vancouver was pretty fun, not least because we (inadvertently, our planning skills are not that strong) landed there just in time for the Pride Parade – there couldn’t have been a better way to start our west coast adventure. The kids loved it … as you can tell from the grin on her face:

And Teddy was pretty excited too. Har har!

I know you’re here to see proof of my vacation capsuling magic (yes?), and I aim to please, so without further ado, let me present outfits #1 through 5:

The weather turned a little (just a little) colder and wetter after a few days, but we persevered. Luckily, most of the time, the sun did eventually come out. My layering game might have suffered from all that meteorological indecision.

Vancouver was as beautiful as ever, of course:

What I Wore: June Work Wardrobe Capsule

I feel like I write this every month, but here goes anyway: June was busy, you guys. Between work, and the kids, and the house, and the blog, and the book I’m trying to cram in on top of everything else … I basically didn’t exhale all month. My husband and I had a lovely mini-break at the beginning of July, but now life is back to “hectic” mode. I just have to give up the idea that things will “settle down”, and embrace the madness.

What does all that have to do with my outfits? Not much, except for the fact that I rarely have any time to think about what I wear. Or what I buy. Or style in general. I’m just grateful that I have a wardrobe that functions well without requiring too much thought on my part. Coasting is the current name of my style game. With that, on to the outfits!

With everything going on in June, I’m pretty pleased with how the month’s outfits turned out. As always, seeing them all lined up puts them in a new perspective, but they were not altogether as heinous as they could have been. My favourite piece was probably the neon tweed J. Crew dress, with the floral Boden skirt a close second. And as much as I don’t like the quality of my blush pink Topshop blazer, it’s a great summer piece. My fave outfits were #1, #9, #11, #15 and #22.

I just want to take a quick sec to thank you guys for sticking with BCRL. I know that posting here has been increasingly sporadic, and I’m not as present as I’d like to be (in the comments here or in the comments of my fave blogs – you know who you are), but I truly appreciate your continued support and I love hearing from you. I do spend more time on IG these days – easy procrastination – so feel free to give me a shout there (or email me!) any time. Cheers!

What I Wore: May 2015 Work Capsule

May was a tough month. Between work and some personal issues, I haven’t had much time to spend on the blog (sorry!) or my outfits in general. I don’t want to make any promises I can’t keep, but I’m cautiously optimistic that June will be a better month on both counts.

Oh, hey – I managed to put on clothes, ma! Ok, nothing to get super excited about here, but #2 and #11 were pretty cute, and there were no egregious failures either. I really liked the new pieces I added this month – the leaf print Cynthia Rowley top, and the blue J. Crew Factory blazer (sorry, no recap either!) – and they were a breeze to blend in with my existing wardrobe. Speaking of which, I re-discovered some old favourites, including the black Sweet Chemise dress (ancient), the tan Valentino skirt (ditto), and the eci dress from a couple of months ago. Maybe there’s something to be said about having a closet to rival Imelda’s.
