This time of year, grey skies seem particularly cruel. Mother Nature keeps toying with us — warm temps one day, snow the next — and I’m close to my wits’ end. It doesn’t help that the whole family has fallen prey to a pretty nasty cold bug that’s taken us out of commission, one by one, for two weeks and counting. I need some help here, Mother Nature! Bring on spring. Bring on colour. Bring on the sun!
I promise to do my part, and ease up on the grey and black. Well, maybe. It’s just … so darn easy. And when you’re dealing with the toddler plague, easy is where it’s at.
This Zara dress was a total impulse thrift buy, but I’m glad I “splurged” the $11 to buy it. It’s definitely a conversation starter. It’s also quite versatile, and has a boho vibe that’s passable at the office. Bonuses all around. Here, I paired it with lots of shiny gold-toned accessories because … well, the magpie instinct is hard to repress.
I did tone it down a bit for my hearing. Bathroom selfie ahoy:
All in all, I’m happy with this thrift find, even if the fact that the pattern on the bodice and skirt doesn’t line up still bugs me. And even if I occasionally feel the urge to burst into a certain Disney ballad whenever I catch a glimpse of my dress in the mirror…
A terrible pun — forgive me — but the basic point is that March has been a step in the right direction. The direction of spring, that is. We still get cold days occasionally, but the temperatures have been positively balmy at times. Well, for Edmonton. In March. Hence this outfit — I promise I didn’t have to freeze my tush off for these pics. I never thought I’d say this but it’s great to be reunited with my garage door backdrop. Shooting OOTD pics in the basement has taken its toll.
Anyway, the outfit. I threw on my beloved J. Crew Dutch floral sweater over a new-ish thrifted Anthro dress, and it was a nice little combo for a Saturday of errand running. Seriously, it’s hard to go wrong with this sweater/sweatshirt, and I would encourage you to look it up on eBay when you get the chance. (Just keep in mind that, if you see my mug in a listing, I’m not the seller. It’s happened before. Also, make sure it’s the retail version. I can’t speak to the quality/fit of the Factory version.) If you do want to pick it up, size WAY down. I’m wearing an XXS, and it’s still quite roomy in the arms. Otherwise, it’s pretty darn perfect, and it goes so well with practically anything. This Maeve dress is also quite nice and comfy, especially for the $7 I spent on it. Gotta love that thrift.
