Twice

The not-so-dark secret of my office style is – drum roll, please- outfit planning. Yep, I plan my outfits in advance. Weeks in advance, at times. It simplifies my morning routine, and generally helps me to avoid “I have nothing to wear”, or worse, “I hate my hastily-assembled outfit” syndrome. Sometimes, however, things go awry.

Nine times out of ten, it’s the weather. Occasionally, it’s a last minute work function or client meeting. Whatever the reason, I sometimes have to re-arrange my planned outfits. When I’m working with a capsule, that can be tricky. I’m usually able to avoid wearing a clothing item twice in the same week … but sometimes not.

That was the case with this aqua cardigan. I was supposed to wear it with different outfits weeks apart, and then stuff happened, outfits got shuffled, and …

… I ended up wearing twice. Tuesday and Friday.

No biggie because, frankly, no one noticed. It just bugged me, and my irrational need to wear different things, even when I’m in remix mode (aka doing a monthly capsule). Oh well.

The Friday happened to be Halloween. Clearly, I didn’t costume it up. But I did commit to my aqua theme.

Going to the Chapel

No, I didn’t get married. Or, rather, not recently. But I did go to a wedding the last weekend, and I’ve got the fancied-up OOTD photos to prove it.

It was fun. I say that as someone who typically hates weddings. The bride looked lovely, and together with her new husband, very happy. More importantly for my selfish purposes, they threw a nice shindig. I especially appreciated the fact that it was a kid-free wedding. This, on one hand, makes the logistics of attendance a wee bit more difficult; but, once that’s all sorted, the actual event is infinitely more fun. Don’t get me wrong: I love my kids, and spending time with them is always generally a blast. However, keeping two little ones in check for the duration of a sit-down plated dinner isn’t really my idea of a good time. Especially whilst wearing a fancy frock. Which I rarely get to do. Or whilst attempting to catch up with friends I haven’t seen in years. Which, obviously, I rarely get to do. So hurrah for kid-free weddings!

Falling for the Season

Fall is not usually much of a season around these parts. There’s summer, then two weeks of rain, then a month or so of 5 degree weather, then snow. (For 5 months. In case you were wondering.) I guess you can call that fall. It’s nothing to write home a blog post about.

But.

This year, we’ve had a lovely fall. The leaves have been changing colour for a few weeks now (as opposed to 3 hours on an afternoon when no one is looking, the way it usually happens), the temperatures have been mild, and we’ve had some truly glorious, warm & sunny days. Basically, the kind of fall that’s perfect for fashun blogging. Layers? Knits? Scarves? Boots? (But, like, cute boots, not the ugly, practical kind.) Check, check, check, and check.

We took advantage of one of those beautiful fall days to check out the Edmonton Corn Maze. The maze itself was cool, if a little worse for wear (understandably so, as we visited towards the end of its season), but we didn’t get much time to enjoy it; I had to navigate us out of it in record time (26 minutes!) because Luka had earlier spotted the kids’ trampoline area and immediately lost all interest in everything else. In addition to the aforementioned kid magnet, there were a few other attractions on the grounds, including a mini-train, spud gun range, hay bale slide, and petting zoo. Worth a (quick) trip out of town if you’re looking for something to do with the kidlets on a warm fall day.

I don’t consider myself a fall fanatic (hey, I just had my first Pumpkin Spice Latte not that long ago), but I’m growing fonder of it with every sunny day we’re getting this October. How about you? What are you doing to take advantage of our glorious weather?
