One of the joys of buying this Simons top was the prospect of pairing it with this Zara skirt. I love the silhouette – and I think it loves me back.

Of course, I had to add my red pumps to the mix, at least on this first go-around (I’m sure this isn’t the last time I’ll be wearing this combo) because I can’t help the matchy-matchy. But then I got a little bit stuck on the bag. Red would have been overkill (plus my red bag is a different shade from my shoes), and I felt like my teal-ish blue YSL would have been “blah”. Ultimately, I went with this neutral “stone” Marc Jackbs tote (ancient but still going strong – suede lined vintage MJ bags are my addiction) in lieu of a white or cream bag, which I currently don’t have, and I like how it all came together. With that said, this would be a hard outfit to mess up – not with two such great pieces as its foundation.

  1. Yep, the silhouette loves you back. You’re the only person I’ve seen so far who pulls off the midi skirt length without it looking overly fashiony. Loving the navy.

    • I love midi skirts, but I often feel that they’re not particularly kind to non-Amazons and regular folks in general. So they are definitely “danger, Will Robinson” territory, especially the poofy ones. I think the shape of this one helps a lot – it’s not too twee.

  2. That skirt is perfect! I love navy and it looks like it’s nice quality fabric. Did you purchase it recently? I’d love to get one myself because I’m always on the hunt for a perfect, solid color midi. Love the print of the top too! πŸ™‚

    • Thanks! It’s got a nice weight to it (it’s a jacquard-like material), though it is a synthetic blend. It’s from Zara, and I think I got it sometime last fall. I don’t think it would still be around in stores, but you may want to check eBay.

  3. Love it – I wore red and navy today too. Red shoes, white and navy striped sweater with my navy & red anchor print scarf. Very nautical.

Liking the midi skirt; that silhouette works for you very well. I imagine that you need a least a little bit of height to pull this trend off; I think I’m going to sit this one out!

  4. this outfit is perfection. navy is such a great color, and you’ve paired it all together so well. and that skirt *swoon*

  5. I love this skirt! I work in an almost entirely male-dominated industry (automotive) so I am often uncomfortable with wearing pencil skirts to work. I think this would be an awesome alternative that isn’t quite as form-fitting. Thanks for sharing!

    • Thanks! It’s certainly more comfortable as well, especially over long days and if you’re moving around a lot. Hope you are able to find one you love πŸ™‚
