Oh, potato sacks – how I love thee. Let me count the ways. Seriously, you guys know my deep and abiding love for shapeless shift dresses, and this Joe Fresh dress I bought last fall is near the top of my list. I might seem like a terrible choice for work, but paired with a blazer, it’s perfect for casual Thursday. What’s that you say? Casual Thursday is not a thing? Boo.
So, yes, it really does look nightgown-y in the extreme from the back, which is why I always wear a structured topper with it. At the same time, though, the loose silhouette almost reminds me of a sort of jolie laide, minimalist aesthetic. Again, very much a casual look outside of a creative office, but still doable. Or so I like to think. It’s perfectly comfy for long days in front of the computer, so I’m loath to give it up. So casual Thursday it is!
Purchased this blazer after loving it on you and it works beautifully! I really like it here shaping up that great dress. Thursday casual is where it’s at!
Oh, I’m so glad! I always get nervous when people buy things they see here because I feel responsible – I’m relieved it didn’t disappoint!
Whoa. I always pictured that dress looking very different: short-sleeved and more fitted in the torso. I think your toppers are working their magic.
Haha! The dress is a size bigger to begin with, so that doesn’t help. I think in the correct size, it would be more fitted. But it’s a straight up-and-down silhouette, and I have more of an hourglass/pear-shape figure, so I don’t think that going with a smaller size would give me a better fit. I think I bought it bigger on purpose so that it would look intentionally loose, if you know what I mean.
I LOVE everything about your outfit! I’m an academic and this outfit would be considered super fancy in my world (totally fit for a Monday, probably even an interview!).
Thanks! I am always interested in hearing how dress codes vary across different fields – there is so much variety these days that “business casual” has almost lost its meaning.
