Retail Blues

Until recently, I’ve stayed away from malls and retail stores this year. I broke my thrift-only streak to scoop up this brush-print faux wrap skirt once it hit the clearance rack at BR. No regrets, either. The linen-viscose blend fabric is a bit prone to wrinkling, but the skirt is otherwise lovely. If you’re thinking about picking it up (and you should), keep in mind that, in my experience, it runs a little bit large. If you’re in between sizes, definitely size down.

I also recently splurged on this Skagen watch from Winners. I’m not much of a watch person, but I fell in love with its “starry night sky” face and minimalist aesthetic. I’m a fan of rose gold, so that was an added bonus. So far, I’ve worn it every day at work, and it seems to go perfectly with everything.

This is a super simple outfit, but I liked how nicely polished it looks. Sometimes less is more, I guess. I’m still of the more-is-better mentality (especially when it comes to colour and print) but I’m willing to concede exceptions.

I threw on a blazer for my hearing, both for appearances’ sake and to stave off the cold. I think the powers that be are trying to ensure we all stay awake by turning down the thermostat way low. Smart but also … brrr. This thrifted Theory number actually worked out better than expected, picking up some of the cooler undertones of the necklace.

Also, check out my awesome thrifted J. Crew collection pumps. They’re quite furry, which makes me (a) think of Cinderella, and (b) absent-mindedness pet them from time to time. I just hope they don’t start shedding like crazy, like my last pair of calf hair leopard pumps.

Folks, we have another contender for a Fave Outfit. I just love everything about this, I won’t even try to pretend. It’s definitely a more of a “fall” colour palette than a “spring” one but I’m ok with that. The mustard yellow cords look great with my Regent blazer, but the piece de resistance is definitely my new-to-me Mulberry Jody bag.

Swatch time

Do I need a gold bag shiny enough to substitute for a disco ball? Probably not, but I couldn’t resist it’s shiny goodness, or the really great price (a rare thing for us Canadians, what with the exchange rate *sob*). Mulberry bags are something of a weakness of mine (well, bags in general but you know what I mean) so I’m excited to have a new golden child to play with. See what I did there? Hah!
