Skirt, Ports 1961; sweater, J. Crew Factory; shoes, Ferragamo (via consignment); bag, Marc Jacobs (via eBay)

One of my favourite things about plaid is that it’s so easy to accessorize with all sorts of colour, yet looks more sedate than other multi-colour prints. Which makes it doubly sad that I have to part with this skirt … but the high waist + front pleats combo leaves me no choice. Although it fits my hips perfectly, the waist is just too fitted for my (longish) days at the office; by the afternoon, I’m just about ready for sweatpants and their forgiving elastic waistbands. Anyway, you know what this means: the hunt for a plaid skirt is back on. eBay, bring it!

In the meantime, let’s take a moment to look over the little details:

  1. I love that brooch! I want to get into brooches, but most of the ones I’ve seen look super cheap in person so I’m scared to order online. I’m guessing vintage is really the way to go when it comes to brooches?

    • Not necessarily, but I tend to find them to be (a) cheaper, and (b) better quality. I bought this one on eBay, but you will probably have better luck at your local thrift store or vintage store.

  2. Love the outfit – the plaid, the shoes, the brooch! It’s classic. It is really too bad about the skirt: I wish you luck in your search! I like plaid so much I have two plaid skirts – one in a grey/beige mix and one in a classic red and black. I may have to start getting into brooches though – you make them look so fabulous.

    • You know I do it all the time 🙂 I’m surprised so many Corporettes are admitting they thrift – I thought they’d be above that sort of thing. (I don’t read Corporette much anymore, as I normally just can’t with the comments.)

  3. this outfit is a dream, and you are a queen, my dear. i need to track down my brooches! i was just thinking how cute my blanket scarf would be with a sparkly little brooch on it. maybe i’ll skip the box unloading and just head to a local thrift shop and see what cuties i can find.

so excited to see what skirt you end up with as a replacement! if i thought this would fit me, i would request it, but i cannot with elastic waists these days.

    • Oh, this isn’t an elastic waist – I wish it was! It’s a high waist, with front pleats for that extra pooch every woman desires. /jk
But if you want it, it’s yours!

  4. The brooch is so beautiful. I don’t own any, since I have no idea how to style a brooch. Love -and envy – your Ferragamos. And plaid is another thing I don’t do, so I am curious to see what you’ll find on ebay.
