Alternate title (courtesy of my friend, K.): Victorian librarian chic. Either way, I kinda loved it. This dress is one of my fave recent buys, and I love it layered over this jewel collar blouse. The vibe goes really well with the mid-century gothic novel I’m currently writing. In fact, I can totally see one of the characters wearing something like this.

Sidenote: one of my fave things to do is fantasy cast my books. I used to do it all the time with the books I read, but this is even more fun. Archer and Bell? Scarlett Johansson and James McAvoy (although a friend suggested Jack O’Connell, and I’m totally digging it). I haven’t got anyone figured out for my two current heroines (yet!), but I have a few ideas for the male protagonists.

Tell me I’m not the only one who does this.

  1. I fantasy-cast books I’m reading sometimes, but only if I’d actually want them to be made into movies (contrary to what Hollywood may lead us to believe, some books are better left as books). That said, the books I would LOVE to see made into movies (Garth Nix’s Old Kingdom series) have not been fan-cast by me, mostly because I identify so strongly with one of the protags that, well, I’d want to play her…

    • I totally run into that problem, but there is a very easy solution … did you know that I am also an award-winning actress in my spare time? No? Well, it’s my fantasy cast, darn it! 😉 I’ll be casting director, lead actress, screenwriter, AND director, thankyouverymuch!

(OK, fine, I’ll admit it: I mostly like to cast the male characters ;))

      • Ooo, now you’ve got me thinking about her love interests… I think you might be a bad influence. 😉

Also, directing really appeals to me, which is strange because I’m generally more of a follower. Something about holding the creative reins and having my fingers in different pots, though…

        • Yesssss! I love being a bad influence 😀

I like the idea of directing, in principle, but I know I would suck at it. Like anything in life, it’s probably nothing like I imagine it. (That is to say, yelling “action” and “cut” a lot, and telling people to emote better, haha!)

  2. Writing ANOTHER novel??? I might be the only one, but I’d love to hear about your writing process. When do you write? Do you write every day? How do you map out plots, characters, etc? (I’m an academic and a writing coach, so I love hearing about this kind of stuff.)

    • Yes *sheepish grin* It’s gonna be a shorty though.

Thanks for the idea — I’ll try to get a post up on Friday. I love talking about writing … almost as much as writing, hah!

  3. I second hearing about your writing process. I have always felt I have a writer in me but fail at execution. For the new year I bought several writing books about structuring your story.

Also, You have the absolute best bag and shoe collection. I just purchased my second Ferragamos (eBay) and I’m addicted to them. I’ve been trolling eBay for one of your MbMJ mag bags and haven’t found a good one yet.

    • Yay for Ferragamos! Keep looking for the Mag bag, they do pop up eventually. And don’t limit your search by name (i.e. Mag or Magazine bag) because not all sellers know it. As much as browsing the results of a broad search can be time-consuming, you might stumble across a Mag bag (under a different name/description) sooner. Make sure you do get good photos of the bag befor buying. The leather on these MbMJ bags is wonderful, but it is prone to discoloration/fading especially at the corners. I found that to be the case especially with my burgundy Mag; it’s less noticeable with the Fool’s Gold (pewter). If that sort of thing would bother you, check to make sure your bag doesn’t have those issues (they’re inevitable with time, though).

And thanks for the interest in the writing post. I’m getting something lined up 😉
