Yep, this is still my hands-down favourite dress. I would love nothing more than to wear it on its own, twirling around like Julie Andrews on a mountainside, but alas, my workplace is not particularly conducive to such shenanigans. So I threw on a cardigan, because nothing says “responsible professional” like a cardigan, right? Well, maybe a blazer would, but I wasn’t feeling that, so. Cardigan it is … and leopard print pumps, because apparently I can’t help myself. Sigh.

You know what else? (How’s that for a terrible segue?) I’m currently obsessed with labradorite pieces, like this ring. I found it at Winners (on sale!) and fell in love instantly. The stone is a dark, almost black, blue most of the time, but will flash this intense shade every so often — it’s gorgeous. And while the quality of the jewelry at Winners has been hit and miss in my experience, this ring has been a definite hit.

Labradorite is my favorite stone! I’ve actually spent some time trying to figure out if I could find an engagement ring in it, since I don’t care for diamonds, but I think the stone isn’t precious enough for people to sink time into making an upscale version of it.
Would it be possible to have a ring made to your specifications? Or perhaps find a silver Labradorite ring you like, and take it to a jeweller to see if they can re-set it in gold or whatever other precious metal you prefer?
That’s not a bad idea. My real problem is that I get overwhelmed by choices. I spent most of my 20s totally broke in grad school, so buying fine jewelry was never on my radar. (More of an earrings girl). Circumstances are different now but I still don’t have strong stylistic preferences. I also can’t get my head past all of the years of eating lentils to imagine spending real money on one piece of jewelry, even though we can objectively afford it. I think I’ll probably look at a place that sells vintage rings first.
I love the slight retro vibe of this outfit. Every workplace needs a hint of romance like this just to liven things up – I know sometimes work clothes have to be boring, so why not wear something fun when you get a chance. (Also, your work clothes are never boring even when they are supremely serious!)
Totally agree! Although my clothes are definitely more on the fun side than the serious side. Sigh. I just can’t adult fully, you know? 😉
I love the dress, but I don’t love the cardigan with it. In fact, I actually don’t love the cardigan at all – but you do, which is what matters! And you always look cute anyway.
Haha! My bestie feels the same way about that cardigan, so you are not alone. I always tease her about it, every time I wear it. Now, I’ll think of both of you 😉
