The Adventurer (casual/off-duty)

The Adventurer is my tomboy side, coming back to life after a thirty-year dormancy. (Can you believe I used to be a tomboy? True story.) To be fair, this has been my go-to vibe for casual weekend wear for ages now – I’m just refining and fully embracing it. The Adventurer, as the name suggests, likes to roam and hunt for treasure – which is one way of looking at weekend errands, mom duties, and thrifting. There is a hint of safari in the Adventurer’s aesthetic, but he is rather more at home in the urban jungle than the wilderness. He is the Prince, incognito, gone on a modern day Grand Tour – metaphorically speaking, of course; most of my roaming is of the literary sort. In spirit, if not in sartorial matters, there is more than a dash of this guy:

I am so with you on this! The other week a friend invited me over for breakfast because she and her husband had been given a waffle maker that produces waffles in the shape of a Death Star. Ten minutes before leaving my apartment, I decided to attempt a thrown-together-in-ten-minutes Han Solo vibe. The best I could do was faded black skinny jeans, flat lace-up black boots, a tucked in white thermal, dark orange fleece vest and low slung belt. I thought I’d feel ridiculous but I was remarkably taken with myself. I love your styling of the patchy jeans with the butterflies. Urban jungle, indeed.
Just want to tell you that the idea of “style avatars” has completely revolutionized my thinking about my closet, and helps to understand why some days I love boho chic as much as some days I love classic preppy and on other days I love minimal-slouchy styles. Now all the things in my wardrobe that felt disparate make perfect sense to me – they fit in one or more of those three core styles. Since your first post on the avatars I’ve read the OP on Reddit and spent hours on Pinterest reorganizing my personal inspiration boards and I feel so reinvigorated with my style!!
