I thrifted this Ralph Lauren dress without trying it on; after eye-balling it on the hanger, I knew it was the kind of dress that would be flattering on the body even if it doesn’t otherwise look like anything to write home about. I like the thick, stretchy jersey that RL uses for dresses like this — it skims the body without clinging too much, and RL will often add some nice, soft ruching for extra help. Altogether, makes for dresses that are both polished and comfortable for long days at the office. I will say that some RL dresses tend to run a bit small. I am wearing a 10 here, and while I might have sized down to an 8 if I had bought this in the store, I probably wouldn’t go any lower.
The colour of this dress is particularly beautiful — an intense cobalt blue that proved impossible to capture in photos. Ditto for the ruching; sorry, guys. I added leopard print pumps (sadly, shedding like crazy, and on their last legs, har har) for some visual interest, and then my trusty Mulberry Fitzrovia bag. I always forget, and then am surprised to discover again, how well blue and brown pair. Brown is highly underrated in my closet, so it’s nice to wear it now and then.
I love me a good cobalt dress 😉
This dress shape, with your red hair and your super fab tassel necklace looks like a fantastic (if unintentional) Joan-From-Mad-Men costume.
I would have never thought to pair cobalt and leopard together – my usual animal print pairing with cobalt is zebra. Now to scour my closet for any cobalt pieces to pair with my leopard shoes!
I love all of this, just gorgeous! You are looking SO trim now, I think all my clothes would be too big for you if we did that transatlantic wardrobe swap 😉
Great thrift find, bravo.
