September felt so long, you guys. Between work, my son starting kindergarten, the changing seasons, and all the other usual craziness that seems to define my life, I just wanted this month to end and it kept going and going. Not that anything is different, now that October is here, but I always feel an odd sense of relief when a tough month is over. I have no big plans for October, except to white-knuckle the ride (oh, it’s bound to be a wild one) as best as I can. And plan some cute outfits, naturally.

Speaking of, what did I wear last month?

one, two, three

ten, eleven, twelve

Some really good outfits, some not-so-memorable ones … par for the course. It’s been nice to pull out some old fall pieces from the closet, but at the same time, it’s also hard to resist the lure of the new. Thrifting has spoiled me for choice in terms of the latter, but I am giving wardrobe remixing a solid try. I keep getting tempted by the various capsule projects I see on other blogs, but that sort of thing never seems to end well for me. Still, maybe there is a new approach out there that might work better for my hooked-on-variety self? I guess I want a wardrobe challenge this fall, except I don’t know what that might be. Any ideas?

Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving, Canadian peeps!

  1. What has really helped me is the Stylebook App. Granted, it is a nightmare to get into because you need pictures of all your clothes that their silly “remove background” algorithm will actually be able to work with. But when I simply couldn’t find older, more basic pieces (think H&M and Zara things), I simply chose things that were close enough, to the point where I now have 90% of my wardrobe saved in the app.
And then you just go crazy throwing looks together! It’s a lot of fun, curled up on the couch with a show running in the background. I’m never one for all those rules (Project 333, capsule wardrobes, etc.) because I find it to be too constricting, both for the weather and my own mood that largely dictates how I dress. But with this app, I’ve had a lot of fun playing around in my own closet and creating new looks from what I already have. They also have a calendar feature where you can document what you wear, and it then breaks down the cost per wear for you and identifies how often you wear a certain piece, which has been eye opening.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

    • That’s kind of my process, albeit the lo-fi version (sans app). I guess I just want someething more challenging — with rules, but fun ones, hahaha!

  2. Unrelated to this particular post really but thought you might find it interesting if you haven’t already come across it… An indie sewing pattern company developed the Wardrobe Architect series a few years back to help people who sew (or anyone really) to define personal style. It’s pretty in depth but I found it thought provoking. https://blog.colettehq.com/wardrobe-architect
