Who doesn’t love some good juxtaposition? Leather & silk, black & soft pink. Of course, if you’re me, you won’t be able to stop at any sort of subtle statement; no, you will also throw in a psychedelic skirt because it’s kinda matchy and also because it’s cute and you need more occasions to wear it. I love my Sunday afternoon “date nights” because they can excuse (or justify) just about any outfit.

Everything here is old apart from the blouse, which is Equipment and was thrifted for $3, new with tags. Did I mention how much I love Goodwill? I don’t wear a lot of pink, but I’m a sucker for silk. I also had a tank top in the *identical* shade of pink — perfect for layering under this blouse (which would otherwise be a tad too sheer, and a tad too low cut). Typically, I avoid tops that require undershirts, but this was a closet pairing waiting to happen. Who am I to get in the way of fate?

  1. My (faux leather) biker is starting to come apart sadly but over the years I’ve always enjoyed wearing it like you have here, over a pencil skirt or dress for work, something a bit edgier than I’d normally wear!

    • That’s why I bought myself a bakc-up when I found a (real) leather jacket at the thrift store. It’s not easy to find ones that are in good condition AND the right style, and it’s a piece that’s becoming a staple of my wardrobe, so it seemed like a good idea to snap up a second when the opportunity presented itself. I’ve been wearing both non-stop this fall – love them!

p.s. I love your take on “our” Anthro dress — better on you than me!

  2. Love that skirt pattern! But – very important first world question – doesn’t the front split annoy you? I had a skirt like that recently and let it move on. It made me irrationally tics-y to see my knee poke out every step. Too too odd!

    • I don’t mind it … I didn’t even notice it to be honest (the knee poking out part). The material is so soft, I hardly notice it against my knee.

    • Oh man, velvet platforms (or pumps) sound really awesome! But they’re too trendy right now to be found for a steal. Sigh. I could try it with an ankle boot, but since the hemline is slightly below the knee, and I have short legs to begin with, I’m worried about stumpifying myself …

  3. Yes! Yes to Sunday afternoon dates (when our two were little & we had after-school childcare, my hubby & I would book a day off & go for a little adventure–all the romantic advantages, but less of the fatigue from going out at night!)

And YES to having “thrift guidelines” but being prepared to make exceptions–which is the case of this jaw-dropping Equipment shirt “give away” was definitely meant to happen!

    • Isn’t it funny how our habits and routines change in all sorts of unexpected ways around kids? Who woulda known I would get so excited about Sunday afternoons? But they’re far more exciting now than any Friday or Saturday night, hehe.

    • Thank you! I’ll keep an eye out for it, but I know that I’ve seen what appears to be the same style but in a different pattern. I’m not sure if the style name is the same or not. Have you tried a more generic search like “Anthropologie Maeve pencil skirt”?
