Some days, it really feels like my main style goal is to see how closely I can get to wearing pyjamas to the office. These pants are probably skirting that line, no pun intended. Paired with an oversized blazer, the slouch factor is nearly off the charts. But pointy loafers help to bring it down a notch … one hopes. They are definitely a step above slippers, right?

There isn’t much I can say about genesis of this outfit except that these are all pieces I love individually, so I figured I’d love them together as well. Also, the top does have both purple and grey in its print, which I hoped would serve to tie together the other pieces. I think it all came together nicely so hurrah for realized potential. It’s not always a given, that, even after years of remix experiments. That’s one of the reasons why, being so short on time lately, I have been gravitating more towards the tried-and-true than outfit innovation. On that note, this post from Cassie about clothing ruts really resonated with me.

    • I’m not tech savvy enough for video, honestly. I’m also not nearly skilled enough when it comes to hair styling to do a tutorial. But for what it’s worth, I use an oval barrel, clamp-less iron (BaByLiss) and I just wrap small sections of hair around it, starting from the top near the roots all the way down to the ends. I don’t pre-treat the hair with products; I wash it the night before and let it air-dry overnight. I use L’Oreal Elnett hairspray on the frehly done spirals/waves and leave them to “sit” until I finish my whole head. Then I flip my head down, and shake out the waves. Add a couple more spritzes of hairspray, and done. If I sleep on a silk pillowcase, the waves usually last at least 2, often 3 days, with no touch-up required except a bit of hairspray in the morning. They do get more “relaxed” as the days go on. Needless to say, I don’t wash my hair every day — YMMV. A “wavy ‘do” takes me about 15-20 minutes, which is a lot in my world (I like low maintenance hair) but doable once a week. I usually alternate with straight hair ever few days. I can’t wait for my hair to be long enough for a ponytail again, LOL!

  1. Hopefully more pants like these will turn up at thrift stores. I had a linen jcrew pair for summer and they were a nice break in the rotation of stretchy *not*jeans. I like pairing them with the long blazers too!
