It’s time for another monthly recap and, by dog, where is this year going? But, onwards! Without getting into the details, May was a challenging time for me, and I am not especially sad to see the end of it. (The month, not the challenges, sigh.) I hope you guys had a more fun spring, and exciting plans for the summer coming up. And if not – hey, I feel ya.

But what about the clothes?

I wore some. And the outfits look nice in the line-up. It wasn’t intentional at first, but I somehow ended up doing red as an accent/feature colour in May, and it looks very striking with my usual neutrals.

But here’s the thing.

I’ve been feeling kinda blah about my outfits lately and even as I write this, I’m struck by how obvious the reason why is. May was tough. “Blah” has been my best case scenario lately. I’ve been trying to figure out why I’ve been feeling uninspired by my closet – which is the best it’s ever been, let’s be honest – when the answer was right in front of me, and it had nothing to do with my closet at all. Blogging as self-discovery, who knew.

Anyway, the truth is that my closet is not the only thing that’s been feeling uninspiring lately; blogging, too, feels like more of a chore more than a hobby. I need to figure out a way to change that because writing (like my other hobbies) is important in keeping me feeling happy and healthy. But if my posts seem a little less engaging, or peter out suddenly, you’ll know why. Bear with me, and I’m sure we’ll be back to regular programming sooner or later.

As always, I love to hear from you here and on IG (it helps to make all this feel a little less like shouting into the void), so feel free to drop me a line anytime if you have a question, want to chat about clothes (or books! or TV shows! or fun & cheap new products!) or even if you just want to commiserate.

  1. I’m sorry May was a hard month, hopefully June will be much better. Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your blog. I love your outfits, thrifting tips, tv and book reviews, and your recent crafting projects. Thanks for sharing and know that your posts are very appreciated!

  2. Sorry that you had a bad month, and I hope this month is much better. I love your blog and have been following you from the very beginning. Your thrifting adventures are of the most interest to me. I have learned so much by following you. Thank you!

    • Thank you, Joan. I have appreciated your comments over the year, and I love our little community here ❤️

  3. Your blog had single handedly led me to evolve my style direction (through your personas, which resonate with me too) and reignited my love for thrifting. It’s what’s brought excitement and inspiration back into my wardrobe. I understand blogging can feel like a chore (I used to be a food blogger) so I will understand if you take a break – but know that you are sparking inspiration 🙂

    • I can’t take credit for the style personas idea (I was inspired by something I read on Female Fashion Advice on reddit) but I’m glad it has been a useful concept for others as well. It def changed my approach! Thank you for reading 😊

  4. I adore your style. You have such a great sense of how to make colours work for you. I’d love your advice on online thrifting or consignment. I live in a remote area and don’t have much local access:)

    • Thanks, Sarah! I don’t do a lot of online shopping these days but that’s a great idea for a post so I am going to work on it.

  5. I second everything in Elise’s comment! Yours is the only blog I still read–everyone else has been relegated to IG-only following. Your writing keeps me coming back for more!

I also really liked your outfits from May! It seems to me that you have been bringing some more color/prints back into the mix and I am really enjoying it. Have you noticed that as well or am I imagining things?

  6. Sorry you’ve had a rough month – it’s always hard when your hobby starts to not be enjoyable and feel like a drain, and hopefully it gets better. Also hope you never feel obligated to post but know that I (and I’m sure others) look forward to reading them a lot. Absolutely love your style, and wish I could pull off some of your outfits 🙂

    • Thank you, Sarah.

I don’t feel obligated to write so much as I feel bad about not being able to share more about why I DON’T feel like writing. Does that make sense?

Anyway, I appreciate everyone’s kindness and support.

  7. Boo to bad months! But you’re not alone and I’ve really been enjoying your blogging lately — fashion and otherwise. Maybe you’re just taking the end of GoT harder than you expected? JK. Especially love the embroidery posts, as I’ve just started the hobby myself.

    • Hahahaha! Thanks for the chuckle 😉

I need to get back to embroidery as well, I’ve been putting it off just like blogging, reading, and my other hobbies. Gotta find a good project to get me going again.

  8. You’re one of only two blogs I read (you and Frugalwoods) and I love everything you write :). Thank you for the effort and discipline that goes into it 🙂

  9. Boo to the blah! Hang in there. This too shall pass…
Always love your voice and analytical approach to things.
    Sending good thoughts your way.

  10. I’m sorry to hear about the challenges and also hope that June will be better!
I always enjoy seeing your outfits (and style evolution), as well as reading/watching recs–and you’ve also inspired me to try more secondhand shopping! (There aren’t many thrift shops close to where I live, otherwise I would try–I’ve been very impressed by your finds!)

  11. Love your blog, Adina! I’m sorry you’ve been having a rough time. A couple tv recommendations (though you often get to them before I do): Endeavour, Prime Suspect Tennison. Both murder mystery shows. I hope June will be better.

  12. Sorry you had a bad month! This year has been a weird one, dogged by annoying illness and injury in my family. Just getting through a normal day is a blessing. In that context, you look marvelously pulled together!

What about setting yourself a different wardrobe challenge? I like using a list of what’s on trend, it makes me dig through my closet and remix differently than I would unprompted. Unprompted I end up wearing a column of black with colored toppers.

  13. Love your blog. Over on gofugyourself someone talked about being the ultimate version of yourself, and I thought that your personas might be a step toward that. I haven’t figured out what mine would be but i love the thought exercise. There would be a hippy (or a pioneer woman, that’s my maternal grandma) that would also be an avatar of creativity, an analyst/chief counselor, and someone kickass elegant. Thanks for the suggestion of the avatar tool to think about! Hope things look up soon.

  14. Hi Adina,
I love your blog – my favourite of all, and I try and read every post. I love your writing and your witticisms. And the your style and thrifting are truly inspiring. I hope from a very selfish point of view you keep going and keep enjoying it!!
And I hope June is a better month for you.
