Acid wash denim cut-offs … at my age? Never say never, I guess. I bought these shorts as a joke, mostly. I’m planning to hit up the Sonic Boom concert in September with a couple of girlfriends, and decided that if I’m going to relive my early twenties (the last time I saw a concert of any sort was circa 2004), I might as well dress the part. And, um, this is what Manic Pixie Dream Girls wear these days, right?

Having bought the damn thing, I decided to take it for a test drive, as it were, to see if I could pull it off without looking (and, more importantly, feeling) ridiculous. A family trip to Old Strathcona and the river valley seemed like as good an opportunity as any, especially on a beautiful, hot Saturday afternoon. And you know what? I never noticed before, but it seems like everyone is wearing short-shorts these days. This pair is pretty comfortable, all things considered*, so I really had no reasons to feel self-conscious. Never say never, indeed.

* And those things are that I found them in the “juniors” section at Winners for $14.

  1. I have several pairs of short-shorts. The idea that after a certain age you stop showing your thighs is utterly ridiculous. Some of the people I follow on Twitter are constantly pearl-clutching about “women over 30 wearing skirts above knee-length” and shorts-wearing in general (seriously- they talk about stores full of “slutty shorts”, and then name drop THE GAP)- it usually makes me silently rage until I black out.

If you want to wear shorts, WEAR SHORTS. You don’t have to be letting your butt cheeks hang out the bottoms, but why you would waste any of our limited, precious warm days swathed in fabric if you didn’t want to be is beyond me.

    • I totally agree! And if it came across like I was being a judgy wudgy, it was not intentional. I’ve personally felt self-conscious wearing short-shorts even at 25, so I did not expect to be wearing them a decade later. I guess what they say is true – with age, you CAN learn to become more comfortable in your own body.
      Rock those shorts, lady!

  2. Hi 🙂 I just came across this app and it can be used to track items worn, items in the wardrobe and the cost per wear for each item. Looks like something right up your alley. I have not started using it yet but probably gonna look into it this weekend 😉

    • Oooh, thanks for letting me know! I will have to look into it, although my handy dandy iPad note hasn’t let me down yet 😉
