August seemed to come and go in the blink of an eye. Even my birthday barely registered – though, to be fair, at this point that might be a good thing. My job is keeping me very, very busy, and it’s a pace that takes some adjustment. I’m loving the work, but the learning curve is steep and sometimes feels like a bit of a roller-coaster; some days, it’s a white-knuckle ride all the way. The rest of my life is taking a bit of a back seat, as evidenced by how long it’s taking me to respond to personal emails (sorry) and comments (sorry). I am trying to work out a better balance for myself, and it might mean taking a bit of a step back from the blog. We shall see. [Edited to add: Sorry, peeps, I didn’t mean that to sound like I’m quitting altogether. Just dialing back on the post frequency, for the next while anyway. I guess that sounded way more dramatic than intended. Whew!]
But! I still managed to wear clothes. Lots of them, see?
Number 20 was my fave outfit of the month by far, with 16 as a close second. There were a few good repeat-outfits in the mix as well. To be honest, though, style took a bit of a backseat this month, much like most other things that were not work. Oh well, onwards and upwards.
Here is what I wore in August back in 2015 and 2016.
My how you have changed from 2015! A much more mature style style which definitely suits you.
Thanks! It’s funny, as I was looking through some of my 2015 pics, I saw outfits I think still look really great … but I’m not sure if I would love wearing them now. They really suited me at the time, but perhaps not anymore. I think I have changed, and it’s weird to realize that through clothes of all things.
You seem to so happy about outfit #20 (that’s more or less my aesthetic as well, I like #5 and #6 too), so I’m curious why you don’t dress similarly more often? I find it’s just wearing black, grey-ish and nude, more or less. I guess you might get bored of it?
That’s a good question that I’ve been asking myself a lot lately. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone into my closet with the intention of making a clean sweep. I can’t bring myself to do it. I think it comes down to the fact that I still love the other pieces I have — which fit a somewhat different aesthetic — and I can’t bear to part with them. And I feel guilty about not wearing them. So I wear them and they’re fine … though I still much rather wear my boring minimalist outfits these days. But you might also be right in that, if that’s all I ever wore, I would get truly bored after a while. I don’t know.
I, for one, will be sad if you do choose to step back from the blog, but I’m being purely selfish! Yours is the first one I check in the morning – I love the reliability of your blog, and the lack of ads/efforts to sell something. You obviously have to do what’s right for your life, I’m just adding my two cents of encouragement that someone out there really really likes what you do here.
I didn’t mean stop posting, just dial back on the number of posts. Some weeks, daily posts are no biggie, but there are times when it feels like just another chore on an already too-long list. I’ve always tried be consistent with my posting because, as a blog reader, I hate not knowing when I can count on a new post on my fave blogs. But at times, posting 5x per week feels like a lot of pressure to put on myself for no good reason. The truth is, some weeks I have more to say/write, and others weeks, less. I might just play it by ear…
For the past 3 years my peaceful morning routine has been your blog + my tea 🙂 Needless to say I will miss it a lot! That said, hope you accomplish great things at you work.
On to the outfits then… #7 and #13 are my favorite outfits partly because they are both hard silhouettes for most people to pull off but you do it with ease.
Eek! Sorry guys … I totally didn’t want to sound like I was chucking the blog altogether. Just taking a step back from posting as often. Hopefully the routine can still happen — some if not all days 😉
Your 2015 pics give me all the feels because my boys went to that same school for 5 years.
I really enjoy these style evolution posts. 2016 was a little severe looking to me, but between 2015-2017 the biggest difference other than the hair I think is that you went to from doing the hi-low mix, to all-hi or a more curated look?
My daughter is finishing up her last year there 🙁
I think the shift is towards a 100% thrifted/secondhand wardrobe and everything that comes with that. I was still buying a fair bit of retail in 2015.
Didn’t catch it at first, but I wonder if you mean for the year in the title to be 2017? 🙂
Yes! Omg, I can’t believe i missed that! Goes to show …
Thanks!!
I’d say favorites for me are 2, 5, 13, & 19. As mentioned by others, I always enjoy reading your blog, but understand the needs of your schedule!
