Work Christmas Party, 2015

Merry Christmas Eve, you guys! I hope you are enjoying a lovely time with family and friends tonight … and in the meantime, here’s a look at my office Christmas party this year. Hey, this blog is nothing if not timely, right?

So, this is my 7th Christmas party at my current firm, and the first one that I helped to organize. In case you couldn’t tell from that header photo, this event is kind of a big deal on our office’s social calendar, so organizing it brought back flashbacks of my wedding planning, um, adventures – the good and the bad. Luckily, everything went off without any apparent hitches, and everyone seem to have a good time. The theme this year was Japanese tea garden, by the way. We basically wanted an excuse to use those gorgeous, pink blossom table overlays – and lots of orchids.

Oh yeah, I wore stuff:

This was also the first year we reserved a hotel room for the night of the party, which meant … that we could finally partay, baby!

It was all a lot of fun … until the next morning, when we had to get up early-ish to go home and rescue the grandparents from kidlet duty. C’est la vie. Seize the prosecco, and make merry!

I could have SWORN this skirt was a size 6, J. Crew No. 2 pencil skirt when I bought it, new with tags, at consignment. Well, it turns out that it’s a size 4, J. Crew Factory skirt. What the hell, Adina?

The quality difference is not super noticeable (at least, not yet), but the size is. I mentioned before that I’m in between sizes at J. Crew at the moment, and this confirms the benefit of sizing up. The waist of this skirt fits well (better than the 6, sitting at my natural waist) but the hips are another story. I hate the wrinkling happening here, although it probably looks worse in the photos than it did in real life.

Skirt issues aside, I really quite liked the outfit, and it was nice to pair this Simons top with something other than navy, red or white. I always forget that camel is a neutral too. That shouldn’t be the case, given that I wear my camel coat almost every day, with every single thing imaginable. Camel for the win!

Admittedly, this outfit doesn’t look all that exciting in photos, but I felt quite chic wearing it. Must be all that black, hah! Anyway, the dress (not skirt, folks!) is a piece I picked up at my last clothes swap then never wore. It’s a beautiful print, and the material is silk with a velvety finish/feel, but it has a really annoying elastic waist that hits me far too high on my torso. Boo!

I was about to set it in my next clothes swap pile, when I decided to give it another try. And I found myself reluctant to part with it. How to make it work? Well, for the office, I had to start by covering up the top part, which is (a) ruffly; (b) low cut, and (c) quite summery. This also disguised the pesky elastic waist, so – bonus.

It’s a pretty casual look for work, but I wore it on a Friday when the staff Christmas party was held, and I think it had the perfect vibe for that (daytime) event. On that note … I’m ready to start counting down to the next clothes swap!
