Nothing to see here …

But, guys … Game of Thrones: did it blow you away last night, or what? A bow to the guts can do that …

I finished the books a while back, and have been enjoying watching the story unfold on the show. I actually like being “spoilered” because I don’t think I could otherwise stand the shocks the show delivers on the regular; it’s hard enough when you’re reading some of these plot twists, but watching them is on a whole different level. Anyway, I’ve been looking forward to the Tyrion/Tywin showdown for a long time, and GoT brought it.

Here are my thoughts on last night’s season finale (spoilers etc.):

1. I’m still pissed about last week’s episode. I know everyone went gaga over the technicalities of the battle for the Wall (mammoths! giants! ginormous wall anchor thingie!), but I kept waiting and waiting. And then waiting some more for Stannis to show up. So … an episode late but better than never next season. I’m #TeamJonSnow forever so I may be biased, but the North just got a whole lot more interesting. I cannot wait for this storyline to develop next season.

2. Tyrion working out his daddy issues – that felt cathartic, amirite? Also, happy Father’s Day.

3. Valar morghulis! In the books, Arya’s storyline bored me to tears up until this point, but then suddenly became intriguing from hereon out. By the end of Book 5, she was one of my fave characters, or at least one of the ones who interested me the most. So you can expect, um, a lot to happen in Braavos.

4. Speaking of Arya-related things, that whole Brienne-Hound fight was a nice surprise. But it was so anti-climactic too. It just reiterated what bugs me the most about Brienne: she always fucks up, good intentions and all. Even when she wins, she loses.

[ I refuse to devote an entire point to Daenerys, whose storyline is just so …. zzzzzz. Character development, blah blah blah. Wake me up when Book 6 is published.]

[But I missed that sexy bastard Petyr Baelish, and goth Sansa Stark. So they get a square bracket too. I know a lot of you are creeped out by Littlefinger, but he’s got a evil-sexy-older-guy vibe I’m definitely enjoying. I love his Machiavellian machinations, and if the Seven Kingdoms were a meritocracy, he’d be near the top of my list of people who should sit on the Iron Throne. Right after Jon Snow, of course. (For different reasons, obvs.) Yup, I said it. Flame away.]

5. Much like Arya, Bran has bored the hell out of me ever since he got defenestrated by Jaime Lannister. (For the record, reading that scene in the book nearly broke my easily manipulated mommy heart.) But, again like Arya, his storyline just got a whole lot more interesting. I’m starting to think that the Stark kids might just be a pivotal part in the whole fight-the-Others business, dragons be damned. Still, I’m sad about the Love, Actually kid. I guess the show just spoilered the books on that score.

Bring on season 5!!!

Ok, back to clothes talk tomorrow, I promise.

  1. I scrolled past your text b/c although I don’t watch GOT my husband does & the finale is tonight in the UK. Clearly I’ll be watching the World Cup on the iPad whilst reading a magazine but he is beyond excited & I don’t want to know Anything that he doesn’t.

I did want to say that I LOVE the pattern & colours on your top. So pretty & very eye catching πŸ™‚

    • Oops, sorry about that! I had no idea.
It’s funny, the roles are reversed at my house. My husband is watching the World Cup religiously, while I … don’t, LOL! I mean, I see the highlights, mostly because they’re unavoidable at my house. But I was SO excited about GOT! And it was a great episode, hope your husband enjoys it!

  2. Ha, I just bought a similar top at Loft and was debating the wearing of it with a slightly shorter black cardigan, I think you sold me with this outfit!

And I have been following along with GoT as I read them a ways back but am hugely too squeamish to actually watch them, I kind of love that they saved the Tywin/Tryion scene for Father’s Day. And I, too, have conflicting feelings about Littlefinger. I mean, eew, but helloooo.

    • Yay, I’m glad to hear that! I’m sure your outfit will turn out fab.
And LOL – helloooo Petyr! I’m totally a Jon Snow girl, but … yeah, I could be persuaded to go there. Especially now that Oberyn is no more πŸ™

      • I’m glad we can agree on Petyr since Oberyn is gone, for me Jon Snow is a little bland πŸ˜‰
Curious if your 30 for 30 includes accessories? Shoes, but not bags?

        • Admittedly, I am swayed by book version Jon Snow. I haven’t watched seasons 1-3 of the show, so I don’t know how he translates to the screen. But Kit Harington is purty, so I ain’t mad either way πŸ˜‰
I included shoes in my 30 x 30, but not bags or other accessories. I tend to wear the same 3-4 bags, though, if that helps. If I hadn’t included extra coats (in case of cold weather), I probably could have included bags in the 30 total.

          • I think I used all of the pieces I picked, although some only once or twice. One pair of pants, in particular, I decided to downgrade to “playground duty” almost immediately after I started the 30 x 30, so they only turn up in one post. (I try not to post my playground “outfits” because no one wants to see that, really).

I think I will do an overview of the whole challenge, to show how each of the major pieces was remixed.

I ended up picking a lot of basics, surprisingly, so they were very versatile … although the results have been tending towards the boring side. I say “surprisingly” because I always gravitate towards statement pieces – or, at least, used to. So this was a change of pace for me.

  3. I’m way behind on the show, but I’m so glad I’ve read the books, because there are show spoilers everywhere! It’s crazy. GRRM needs to hurry up and write books 6 & 7. I have to know what happens!

    • I KNOW, RIGHT!!! I know it’s obnoxious when I complain (because I’ve only just read all the books, and I haven’t yet had to wait as long as some fans) but still … hurry up, GRRM!

  4. Okay. Can I just say AVIARY top?!?!?

Now that I have that out of my system… I love that you wore Tory Burch flats in a way that doesn’t seem super preppy. I swear everytime I put the Reva flats on my feet I look like I go to a prep school… but not in a cool Blair Waldorf way.

P.s. Who doesn’t love a good Kate Spade bag. Live colorfully indeed!

p.p.s. I promise I did try to read this entire post, but I hate to admit it… I don’t watch Game of Thrones (a lot of my friends would probably boo me at this point)

    • Hey, so you know that top? I was planning to purge/donate it because I can’t stand it for one more minute (it’s cheapo poly) but, listen – if you think you would like it, I’ll send it to ya. If you can live with cheap poly, that is. Oh, and it probably would be suuuuper big ‘n blousy on you, but that you might be able to pass as a stylistic choice. Anyway, I’m just putting it out there.

I’ve never found TB shoes to be super preppy, but I tend towards the preppy side anyway, so it’s possible that it just doesn’t register with me.

I love the look of Kate Spade bags, but this is the only one I’ve ever kept for any amount of time. For some reason, they’re just not my jam. Maybe it’s the stiff leather? I dunno. It’s too bad, really, because she always has great colours and styles.

I won’t join the chorus of “boos” but … you really should watch/read GoT!
