I know what you’re thinking. Didn’t you just see this outfit? Is it Groundhog Day? Are you Bill Murray? The answers: yes, no, and that would be amazing but probably no. Unless you are Bill Murray, in which case: hi, I love you.

Sometimes, I just wear the same things, over and over. I know you’re surprised, because I do my very best impression of a fashun blogger here, but the truth is out now. I wore this jacket two weeks in a row. It’s probably more like three, or four, by the time you’re reading this. NBD. For round #2, I paired it with my cobalt blue Minnie pants (I’ll save my rant on those for another post). And black. Lots and lots of black. Pairing blue and black always feels a little borderline to me; it could end up looking really sharp, or really slapdash clashy. I’m hoping this outfit landed in the first category.

If black doesn’t suit, brown is an option too. Always underrated.

I’ve always been lukewarm about brown as a staple neutral, but works well with all sorts of colours, including blue. And tortoiseshell is a perfect compromise, if you want to hedge your bets – with brown and black.

Which is your favourite way to (wear) blue?

17 Comments on Two Ways to Blue

  1. I love blues, all shades of blue. Depending on the intensity of the color, I pair it up with green (I know!), red, yellow, or even lilac/purple and I get compliments every time. I kid you not – blue is my black 🙂

    • I wear blue and green together too! Blue is my black … for real.I just did a colour analysis (yes, I’m a dork), and I have more blue pieces in my closet than black. Of course, floral is also my black so … 😉

      • It’s okay – I’ve done a colour analysis on my closet too. Strangely enough, I have a lot of neutrals (black, white, grey) – and then a bit of every colour except for green.

        • Whew! I’m glad I’m not the only one 😉
I have a little bit of every colour, but yellow and orange and the most under-represented. If you count in olive and khaki, I have way more green than I thought.

  2. i, of course, like outfit 1 because it’s got that fab moto jacket, but HOLY COW OUTFIT 2. it’s everything. i’ve been dying to find a cheap blue oxford shirt that i can DIY a jeweled (jooled) collar on. i loooove the color of the sweater over yours, and that skirt is so sweet. colored tweed is my jam. plus adorable glasses and leopard pumps? nailed it.

    • That sounds like a super cool DIY project! I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

I actually hate wearing glasses, but I’ve developed some sort of inflammation/allergy, so my eye doctor has banned me from wearing contacts for the time being. Boo hoo! I’m still dealing with my middle school glasses-related trauma …

  3. You’ve got the blues for me! Love them all!

But is it illegal to wear the same jacket once a week, every week? I try not to wear the same jacket twice in one week, but I certainly feel like the weekend is a palette-cleansing, fresh-start enabling device and after it I can remix wardrobe pieces from last week!

    • Only if you’re a fashun blogger! If you are, you can only ever wear things once. Twice, if you’re a minimalist. I keeeeed, I keeeeed.

Listen, I’m totally with you. I wear the same pants at least once a week. Also, the same jeans. And often, the same black cardigan. No one notices.

  4. I tend to wear the black and blue combination a lot, but it doesn’t usually pop the way yours does! I usually look in the mirror and think “wow, I’m dressed like a bruise.”

  5. Love the black and blue combo – so chic! Good thing I’m not a fashion blogger either – I wore the same shoes two days in a row this week.

      • They DO make it. Your photo inspired me to look. There’s a company in the UK that will custom print map wallpaper for coordinates you provide in the colour of your choice. How cool is that? It may mean I have to give them my firstborn to cover the staircase I had in mind for it though…
