LOFT eyelet lace top
Top, LOFT (swap); cardigan, J. Crew (via consignment); pants, American Eagle; shoes, J. Crew Factory

This was one of those unassuming outfits that turns out better than expected. I mean, I’m not breaking any style ground here (what’s new?) but this is cute and comfortable, and it just works. No over-thinking required. Also, how lovely is this LOFT top? I think it’s a subtle way to wear lace at the office (always a dicey proposition), so I’m looking forward to remixing it in some work outfits. The armholes do gape a little oddly, but it’s not noticeable at all under a topper – minor quibble. Thanks again, R., for the swap find!

springtime … in March … say whaaaa

Can we talk about the weather for a second? I know it’s a hella boring subject, but I need to take a moment and marvel at the fact that we have been (almost) snow-free for a few weeks now … in March! We have a spring this year, ladies and gentlemen. At least, I’m calling it spring, officially, before Mother Nature can change her mind. And I’m putting my boots away, to show her I mean it. Here’s hoping my bluff works. [Edited to add: LOL. Nope. We got snow on the first official day of spring.]

necklaces, Tiffany & J. Crew

I’ve done this necklace layering thing before, but I figured you’d want to see it again. You’re welcome. I’ve also done the side ponytail before (a few times), and I guess you could say that I’m unrepentant about it; I don’t care if the consensus on these things is “yea” or “eww”, they’re helping me avoid “tiny insect head” syndrome when I pull my hair back, and if that involves looking like a middle-schooler, well, I ain’t above it. #adultingfail

basic but cute

22 Comments on Spring Blush

  1. Earlier last week I was just thinking “I should make an appointment to take off the snow tires…” And then…boom, it’s basically January again. Boo.

I liked your last note “basic, but cute.” It gave me a way to describe what I tend to wear on a daily basis. Basic, but it’s generally cute in some form or another.

    • Yeah, we (and by that, I mean my husband) took off the tires, like, 2 days before the snow hit again. Argh!

Listen, “basic but cute” describes at least 80% of my outfits (and 100% of the ones I end up liking best, LOL!) Nothing wrong with dat!

    • Yay … if only it was actually here *single tear*

I don’t wear a lot of blush, because my complexion is basically blush so I’m washed out, but I think it can be a lovely almost-neutral for a lot of people. Just a prettier version of cream, really.

  2. I love this color combo on you, the dark bottoms ground it but the pink and cream are so nice with your coloring! On that note, I didn’t comment on the gigundo post below but I really do enjoy your writing! I am in a much more casual office so I don’t comment regularly because it would just be repetitive “love that print!” etc. but I had to go to an actual conference recently and I think I reread ~6 months of your acrhives before I went! I also really enjoy your book posts and gag with envy over your thrifting finds. I hope you keep it up, and judging by the kabillion comments down there I think I am not the only one 🙂

    • Thanks for the outfit compliment, and the general blog compliment too!

I’m glad we’re on the same page with the book posts, but please don’t be jealous of my thrifting – join me!

  3. I like this outfit a lot. We also had quite a bit of snow on or around the first day of spring here. It was slightly distressing. I don’t think I even remember what it feels like to dress for spring or summer anymore!

    • “Slightly distressing” is such a gentle, ladylike way of putting it. I was f***ing mad! LOL! I still am, although the temperatures are rising again, so I don’t want to piss off Mother Nature too much.

Getting dressed for warm weather is like riding a bike – it’ll come back to ya in no time 😉

  4. I love this outfit, simple but very put together! Winter came back here in MN with a vengeance too, we have had two major snowfalls since “spring” started.

    • I feel your pain! That sucks. Seeing people from the southern states post about 90 degree weather also sucks, although more power to them, I guess. I’m a grumpy curmudgeon today, apparently. Snow does that to me 😉

    • OMG, I’m not the only one!! You understand what I mean, right?! Sigh … it’s a real problem. A first world problem and all, but still.

    • Thanks! I find, as a redhead, that I have to be careful about pink, but certain shades work quite well. Salmon, on the other hand – shudder!

  5. These colors are so pleasing to the eye! I was thinking of doing the reverse with your suggestion of using a cardigan to “squash” my boxy lace tee in blush with a cream cardi.

    • Do itttt! Or try it with black too – it makes for a starker contrast with the lovely blush. But, really, it’s such a versatile colour, it could pair with plenty of others too. Let me know how it goes!

  6. Ugh, we still have a good two feet of snow left to go but at least the roads have melted. Your comment higher up made me laugh, I’d just been talking about switching out to the summer tires!
I really, really love those shoes, the pointy toe with the bow paired with the black jeans is so perfect. (you have a pretty killer shoe collection as well!)

    • Thanks! I take my shoe game very seriously 😉

I definitely feel for you – it’s bad enough down here, I can’t imagine living any further north. I hope you see some signs of real spring soon!
