My 2015 casual summer uniform is the same as my 2014 casual summer uniform. What can I say: the heart wants what it wants. And what my heart wants this summer (apart from Brandon Flowers 80s-inspired pop songs) is cute floral Anthro skirts, and this Old Navy top.

Since stripes and florals is such a safe combo (sez the fashun blogger), I decided to add another print into the mix. This J. Crew Factory belt has an elastic back, so it’s nicely accommodating, but I’m not sure if it’s as versatile as I originally thought. The (ikat?) print is interesting, but maybe a little busy? I don’t know, help me out here, peeps.

Speaking of things only fashun bloggers probably understand, the nice thing about posing in my parents’ extra long driveway is that I can engage in all manner of twee poses without feeling quite as silly as I would on my own, considerably more exposed property. Of course, my husband-slash-photographer is always there to remind me of just how silly I look. He’s awfully reliable that way. (Love ya, babe!)

Iris Love

missing the (big, chunky, cozy) scarf – in the name of fashun blogging

Yeah, those boots again. This was a date night outfit, so I basically just threw together a bunch of things I love. As a bonus, the Tibi dress has a healthy dose of sexiness to it, which made it very apropos. TMI? Sowwy.

see, the tights were blue … and everything looked less all-the-colours-of-the-rainbow

As you can see in the picture above, my tights really were blue – and not purple – and looked less random in real life. Shooting outfits at dusk (4pm, sob!) is always tricky. I took a chance on (matching) blue tights because my default black ones wouldn’t have worked with this outfit. In fact, I’m not sure how I feel about pairing this dress with black, period. I love its print, but it may prove a little difficult. What would you guys suggest?

Cropped Floral Sweatshirt, Take Two

J. Crew dutch floral sweatshirt
Sweatshirt, J. Crew; shirt, J. Crew (via consignment); pants, Adriano Goldschmied (via Kijiji); shoes, Tory Burch (via consignment); bag, Rebecca Minkoff

I said I would play around with the layering potential of this cropped sweatshirt, and I am a woman of my word. Do we like take #2 better than my first attempt?

florals + plaid

I definitely think that the sweatshirt print “pops” more when paired with dark colours (or prints) than lighter ones. I initially tried grey jeans with this outfit, and it was a fat, big “nope”.

getting closer with practice

I still do want to try it with a chambray shirt. And jeans. Not together, though. The Canadian tuxedo is ridiculous not my thing, and I don’t care what the fashion industry says. La la la la la, I can’t hear you!
