Grandma’s Old Couch

What I Wore: Out of the House (Indeed)

Pants, Anthropologie; sweater, J. Crew; shirt & necklace, Old Navy
Pants, Anthropologie; sweater, J. Crew; shirt & necklace, Old Navy

The title says it all, eh? In my defence (because I kinda love them), my husband convinced me to buy these pants, and in fact paid for them. True story. They’re pretty polarizing pants; you either love them or hate them (and feel free to tell me so on Instagram). Because they are so borderline-wrong, I make it a point to wear them far more often than is probably warranted. Generally speaking, I think my intentions are better than the results but that’s ok – these pants are my sartorial rebellion, if you will.

Strangely enough, I think the weak link of this particular outfit is not grandma’s old couch but the necklace. It’s what they call de trop. I should have followed the old adage, and taken (that) one thing off before leaving the house.

The Glamorous Life

What I Wore: Monday Morning

T-shirt, Old Navy; cardigan, J. Crew Factory; jeans, Cleo (via consignment); scarf, Aldo Outlet

Really, this could be any Monday morning. And they say there isn’t truth in fashion blogging. Well, if you can call this a fashion blog. But here it is, folks: what an average stay-at-home-mom wears on an average day. An average day when I go out, that is. You don’t want to see what I wear when I stay home all day. Really, you don’t.

My favourite part of this outfit is the scarf, hands down. I hunted for a scarf like this (large waffle knit, not scratchy, infinity style, under $15) for what seemed like months, but more likely was a week or two. It was frustrating, I tell you! I finally found one that matched 90% of my specifications, minus the colour. I wanted black and found this burgundy colour … which turned out to be surprisingly versatile. The universe provides what you didn’t even know you wanted!

The Amazing $1.50 Skirt

What I Wore: Mommy Business

Skirt and jacket, Old Navy; sweater, J. Crew (via eBay); shirt, J. Crew Factory; boots, Hunter; bag, MbMJ (via eBay)

The title says it all: this skirt cost a whopping $1.50 on the clearance rack at Old Navy. I’m digging the faded chambray, and the elastic waistband (though not the fact that said waistband is perpetually twisting the wrong way). Paired with flannel tights, it’s a feasible option for the days when I simply. cannot. wear. pants. yet. again. Dramatic pause for effect.

I’m also digging this field jacket, also from Old Navy. I was eyeing the J. Crew version a while back, but couldn’t justify the price. This was a literal fraction of the price (like, 1/8 or something), and it looks pretty good. I’ve gotten a surprising amount of wear out of it already, most of it in Vancouver. I’m excited for the possibilities, come spring.
