I wore this outfit to the office on Easter Monday, which was technically a holiday — hence the relaxed dress code. The reality was that I couldn’t wait to wear this adorable Postmark shirtdress, and the office seemed like a safe bet given the silky material. (Home dry cleaning is great for refreshing clothes, but I’m not sure I trust its stain-removal powers, so I’ll have to keep this dress far away from the kids.) It’s a bit too casual (and young?) for a regular work day, but perfect for a more casual one.

I kept things simple, with a black cardigan and bag, but I couldn’t resist adding peachy-nude shoes to match the (detachable!) collar. These Stuart Weitzman flats are relatively ancient — six years old — but still going strong. Back in 2010, I fell in love with them on first sight; I still remember how much I agonized over buying them (on sale) because they cost $150. Come to think of it, they’re still the most expensive pair of shoes I’ve ever purchased out of pocket (along with a pair of black pumps I still wear, which allowed me to take advantage of the 2-for-1 sale at the time). But, as I said, they’re still in great shape and I still adore them. (They also broke in quickly, so they are now super comfortable, like most SW shoes in my experience. The aforementioned black pumps are, hands down, the comfiest 3 inch, non-wedge platform-free pumps that I own). There is a lesson in that, somewhere, I’m sure.

Happy in Yellow

Yellow is such a happy colour, isn’t it? Not all yellows are particularly flattering to my skin tone, but this warm, sunshine-y shade isn’t too cruel. I added my new sparkly necklace from J. Crew Factory (a gift from the mister — thanks again, honey!) for a bit of contrast … and to satisfy the inner magpie.

I was going to wear my usual, boring black boots, but the day promised to be as sunny as my outfit, so I made a last minute switcheroo. Leopard print pumps with plaid? It made sense at the time, ok? In retrospect, maybe I should have kept things safe with black flats. Oh well. There’s always next time — an outfit this cute is due for a repeat, methinks.

Tales From the Thrift: This ‘n That Edition

With everything going on last month, I have no idea how I managed to do any thrifting … but I must have, because the proof is in the pudding. Or, rather, all the things that I bought. This, and that, and everything. No, seriously.

Not Marc Jacobs ...
Not Marc Jacobs …

Ok, I didn’t buy this. Consider this a PSA: counterfeit goods end up at thrift stores all the time, and the staff is not qualified to tell the difference so don’t be fooled by price tags. This was tagged for something like $30. The “leather” was so cheap and nasty, I didn’t even need to look at the hardware (which is usually a giveaway with fake designer stuff — it never feels as substantial as the real thing).

Not Ferragamo ...
Not Ferragamo …

Another fake. Again, the leather was a dead giveaway. A real designer bag of this caliber, no matter how old, will never fray and crack in this manner.

I also didn’t get this, but I wish I had. It was only, like, $5-6. Bah!

Coach bag $29
Coach bag $29

I went back and forth on this bag, but ultimately passed due to the price relative to its condition. After the fact, I thought I might have been able to do some conditioning on the leather (although there wasn’t much I could have done about the tear in the strap), and went back to look for it. Of course, it was gone. C’est la vie.

J. Crew Factory skirt $5

I bought this on a whim, because it’s yellow and only $5. I’m having a bit of a yellow moment. Go figure.

Odille skirt $4

Cute, cheap skirt? Pretty green colour? Anthro brand? Twist my rubber arm.

Deletta top $2

Super soft, super cheap, will be fab with jeans in the summer. Sold.

Yellow love strikes again.

J. Crew Collection pumps $15
J. Crew Collection pumps $15

I actually needed these! Can you believe it? It never happens that I find something I actually NEED (as opposed to just fancy) at the thrift store. This pair of leopard pumps was practically brand new, down to the soles, so it was a double great score.

Cartonnier blazer $20

Impulse buy time. I’ll probably regret it, but it was new with tags (hence the price) and I liked the cropped length.

Nanette Lepore dress $12

Very cute summer dress. I suddenly seem to have a lot of navy in my wardrobe. Good thing it goes well with yellow 😉

Liberty of London scarf $7

Totally random find, but I couldn’t resist that gorgeous peacock print. And silk for $7? No brainer.

When I went back to look for that Coach bag, I found this little gem instead. I’m going to need to figure out how to wear fancy scarves, stat.

Homemade (?) dress $11

Doesn’t this look so very Anthro-esque? I love the details like the lace hem finish, and contrast lining. Very unique.

Postmark dress $9

This was cute, and reminded my husband of orange creamsicle (which he loves), so I thought “why not”. For $9, why not, indeed? That’s why I love to thrift.
