up, up and away - BC bound
up, up and away – BC bound

Ah, summer holidays! We wait for them all year, and they’re gone in the blink of an eye. No, seriously: did any of this really happen? ‘Cause I’m finding it hard to believe and it’s been less than 2 weeks. Well, I guess it did, since I have the pictures to prove it.

Vancouver was pretty fun, not least because we (inadvertently, our planning skills are not that strong) landed there just in time for the Pride Parade – there couldn’t have been a better way to start our west coast adventure. The kids loved it … as you can tell from the grin on her face:

And Teddy was pretty excited too. Har har!

I know you’re here to see proof of my vacation capsuling magic (yes?), and I aim to please, so without further ado, let me present outfits #1 through 5:

The weather turned a little (just a little) colder and wetter after a few days, but we persevered. Luckily, most of the time, the sun did eventually come out. My layering game might have suffered from all that meteorological indecision.

Vancouver was as beautiful as ever, of course:

  1. I LOVE all of your outfits – you look adorable and remixed like a pro. I’ve never been to Vancouver but now I’ve got major wanderlust. And your kids are kind of ridiculously cute

    • Thank you and thank you. Vancouver is lovely, especially in the summer, although I would say that it’s definitely not the cheapest place to travel to. (Although, if you’re American, you will currently enjoy the benefit of our weak Canadian dollar – so maybe this is a great time to visit!)

  2. Just found your blog today and am loving it for some inspiration! But I have one pressing question – how did you get the curls/waves you’re sporting in this post? The waves start so high on your head, so it seems like it can’t be from a wand! Any special technique?

    • Hello, and welcome! So happy to hear that you’re enjoying reading it.

My waves are most definitely from a wand! I wrap my hair around the barrel, the way they tell you to in all those Youtube videos – I just start wrapping pretty close to the roots (as close as I can get without burning myself, so about 3 inches from the roots). I know they recommend starting at about the mid-point, but I tend to be a little OCD-ish about waves being wavy enough, and on my length of hair, if I did what they suggest, the waves would be verrrrry loose. Once I’ve curled my hair, I do run my fingers through it a little bit to separate the curls, but I don’t brush it or anything, so as to keep the wave intact. And I use lots of spray (L’Oreal Elnett).

Also, I don’t wash my hair every day, so I like to curl my hair once, and then let it slowly de-wave over the next 2-3 days; by the 3rd day, the waves are quite loose, and look more like what the tutorials suggest they should. So laziness on my part also plays a role 😉
