The Transatlantic Skirt

Blazer, Aritzia; top, Loft (swap); skirt, Boden (via eBay and Lou); shoes, Ellen Tracy; bag, Mulberry (via eBay)

This dress has seen more travel action than I have in the last 3 years. It’s traveled across the Atlantic 3 – THREE! – times. First, when I bought it from an eBay in the UK. Then, when I sent to Lou in a clothes swap. And, finally, back my way from Lou, who sweetly offered to reunite us after she heard I was pining for it again.

Not content with stealing the skirt off her, um, tush, I also stole her outfit idea. Don’t y’all rush to be my friend now.

(Love ya, girl!)

I Feel Summer

Skirt, Anthropologie (thrifted); top, necklace & shoes, Old Navy; bag, Coach (vintage, eBay)
Skirt, Anthropologie (thrifted); top, necklace & shoes, Old Navy; bag, Coach (vintage, eBay)

This top was an impulse buy during an impulse trip to Old Navy. My casual wardrobe doesn’t really need any additions, so I try to stay away from Old Navy, where cute unnecessary things always seem to call out to me. Perhaps “impulse buy” is not exactly appropriate in this case; I bought the top on a whim, that’s true, but it was a whim motivated by my inability to find a decent striped top. I thought this might be a good option for my wardrobe, albeit not your typical striped top. And whaddya know? It’s pretty much perfect.

The greyish blue colour and chambray-like material are a perfect fit with my summer clothes, especially my floral print Anthro skirts. The cut is not figure-flattering per se, but it is loose and floaty which is nice for summer. (It’s almost a trapeze-like style). The length is a bit odd; not quite cropped, and not quite regular length. It makes tucking in a bit more challenging, but it does give me an opportunity to experiment with different silhouettes. I usually love accentuating my waist, but I’m also drawn to these looser silhouettes these days. I don’t know if I’m alone in this, but that tends to happen whenever I lose some weight; it might sound counterintuitive to play with volume in those circumstances, but I’m actually more adventurous (confident?) with my outfit formulas.

TL;DR This was a cute outfit, and the first time I bared my legs this year. SUMMER IS COMING!!!

A Trip Down Memory Lane

Sweet Chemise dress
Dress, Sweet Chemise (thrifted); shoes, Nine West; bag, MbMJ

This dress was one of my all time best thrift store finds. I think I paid $12 for it. It may not be apparent in photos, but the construction of it is superb. It fits like a glove, without looking like sausage casing. Seriously, there is some magical thing happening around the stomach area, because this dress practically gives me the washboard abs of my dreams – AFTER lunch, no less. Magic, I tell you!

The neckline is tricky. I prefer wearing a brooch, rather than a necklace or big earrings, with this dress, and this thrifted number always struck me as a perfect fit. It’s a real cheapie, but somehow looks way chic.
