Blazer, Aritzia; top, Loft (swap); skirt, Boden (via eBay and Lou); shoes, Ellen Tracy; bag, Mulberry (via eBay)
This dress has seen more travel action than I have in the last 3 years. It’s traveled across the Atlantic 3 – THREE! – times. First, when I bought it from an eBay in the UK. Then, when I sent to Lou in a clothes swap. And, finally, back my way from Lou, who sweetly offered to reunite us after she heard I was pining for it again.
Not content with stealing the skirt off her, um, tush, I also stole her outfit idea. Don’t y’all rush to be my friend now.
If you’re read this blog for a while, you’ll know that, historically, I’ve subscribed to the more is more philosophy when it comes to style. There never used to be an accessory, or print mix, or loud colour combo, that I didn’t love. So I think we can say that my recent sartorial efforts are positively minimalist by comparison. And then we have an outfit like this one. Less is more, indeed.
hey, hey, Good Hair Day
And you know what? I loved it. Even aside from the Good Hair Day. It was comfortable, and simple, and I still felt stylish – without looking entirely out of place for my afternoon stroll in the “wilderness” with the kidlets.
from where I stand
Yup, it was that time of year: the J family’s first trip of the season to Whitemud Ravine. We love going there because it’s quiet and scenic, and a conveniently short drive from our house. You feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere (a very pretty nowhere) – right in the middle of the city.
It’s also where we like to take an annual “state of the little J’s” photo … which didn’t turn out quite so well this year due to a distinct lack of cooperation on the part of the subjects.
annual J Family Whitemud Ravine portrait
If this looks relatively sedate, be assured that the other 99 photos looked more like this. Or worse.
toddler revolt
Another activity this outfit is perfectly suited for? Toddler wrangling. Yee-haw!
No, this isn’t one from the archives. This was 2 weeks ago, in Edmonton.
picturesque and depressing at the same time
I would love to tell you it was a freak weather event, but the reality is that it wasn’t. And, around here, it probably wouldn’t be even in June. *quiet sobbing*
Ahem. Here is what I happened to be wearing that day. It’s far less dramatic.
Pants, Loft; sweater & necklace, J. Crew Factory; shoes, Nine West; bag, Marc Jacobs (via eBay)black and white all over
My husband endlessly mocks me when I wear these pants, but I still like them. They’re holding their shape pretty well, save for some slight bagging around the knees, which seems inevitable at this point – all my skinny ankle pants succumb, to greater or lesser degrees. So, well done, LOFT! Will buy your Marisa pants again.
